Camino talk now on Google Video

Official Google Mac Blog: Camino talk now on Google Video

Posted by Mike Pinkerton, Mac Team Software Engineer

Back in January, I had the pleasure of speaking at Google as a part of the Open Source Developers @ Google Speaker Series about the past, present and future of Camino. It's impossible to tell the story without understanding Mozilla's past and the lessons we learned through our involvement with the open source community at Netscape. Many of these lessons are universal across open source projects, and I hope others can learn from the successes and failures to improve their own work.

I hope you enjoy watching the talk.

Twittering with Google Talk

Twittering with Google Talk

What are you doing right now? It's a pretty simple question. Me? I'm writing this post. Maybe you're "eating a magnolia cupcake," or "at work, but shopping online." Or maybe you're "thinking of how to use the word of the day in a sentence: polypropolene."

Twitter is a site that makes it easy to let the world know what you're doing, and see what other people are up to in a fun, social environment. You can think of it as low-effort mini-blogging. And you can update your status with even less effort by using Google Talk. Just add twitter@twitter.com to your contact list and shoot off an IM to it about how you're "cooking up some spicy chicken jambalaya" or "walking the cat." (Cats can go on walks, too.)

You can also use Talk with Twitter on a mobile device. Using the RIM Blackberry Google Talk Client you can quickly and easily send status updates to Twitter, and we'll all know how you're shoveling yourself out of a foot of snow. Advanced apologies to our NYC office, we've got sun here in Mountain View.

Add twitter@twitter.com to your Google Talk contacts to check it out.

Better branding part I

Google Custom Search: Better branding part I

Jennifer Hyman, Product Marketing Manager

In our constant quest to simplify things, we've made a small, but important change to the language you see from Google on Custom Search Engine search results pages. Now, instead of the long string of text that previously said "Google search results customized by [XYZ site] using Google Co-op," you'll see a small Google logo with the words Custom Search. We think this new branding is an improvement both in design and clarity -- not only do the search results look better, but it should be clearer to your users that they're benefiting from Google CSE.

Later this week, we plan to roll out some additional branding options for your search boxes, and hope you like our first attempt to improve the look and feel and of your CSE.
